FAD is governed by a board directors that establishes the strategic priorities of the association. Each director has a fiduciary duty to be loyal to the association, act in its best interests, avoid conflicts of interest, maintain the confidentiality of association information, and avoid utilizing the office for personal gain.

Board terms are typically two years and board members are usually required to travel three times per year to board meetings. In-person board meetings take place in March/April, September, and November. Board members are reimbursed for travel to/from board meetings.
