Miss Deaf Florida
Hello, I wanted to thank you for giving me this opportunity, and I am honored to accept the title of Miss Deaf Florida. I think it is a great opportunity to have ability for this much experience and exposure. I hope I will represent the Florida Association of the Deaf well and also our Deaf community.
Becoming Miss Deaf Florida has changed me in that I can show how much capability I have and how much I want to have our Deaf community succeed. I strongly believe it helps me become the person I am today. So far, I have attended a few events and engagements that have impacted me deeply. It has encouraged me to improve myself, and I feel very privileged and honored to represent our Deaf Community. It has been challenging and inspiring; however, it will always be in my heart and never forgotten. I hope we can build our Deaf Community to become stronger and represent well to other communities.
My name is Kimberly Wright; I am 23 years old and reside in the city of Port St. Lucie, Florida. I have lived in Florida for 5 years. I graduated with an Associates degree from Indian River Community College located in the city of Fort Pierce in 2006. Currently, I am enrolled in my senior year at the University of Central Florida in Orlando where I am studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology. I am now doing my clinicals at the Florida Hospital for one semester. I am already enjoyed my experience as I face a lot of hard walls. But, I make it through with my hard work. My plan is to graduate from the University of Central Florida in 2009. One of my favorite things I like to do when I’m not studying is volunteer work. My past volunteer work includes St. Lucie Medical Center in 2005. This experience opened my mind tremendously and I really enjoyed it. Right now, I am trying to get involved with more activities whenever I find the opportunity.
I was born in Seoul, South Korea. My American Deaf parents adopted me when I was four and raised me in Waterford, New Jersey. I have attended the mainstream public school system all my life. While in high school I played Volleyball, Soccer, and Softball for my school’s team. My hobbies include reading books, going to the beach, shopping, playing sports, hanging out with friends and family, and helping people at church and other organizations.
I want to thank you all of for your support and love. I am greatly appreciative for your encouragement, your guidance, and patience. I will journey in this endeavor with all of your support, and I know I cannot go alone. I am looking forward to competing and meeting with other young and intelligent ladies. The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) conference will be held in New Orleans, LA in the summer of 2008, so I encourage you will all go and give all of your support to me. It will be greatly appreciated and fun too.
